Technology theme week presents and exhibition curated by Håkan Mitts and Sanna Sarva: 3 Inch Canvas – Art for Mobile Phones
The 3 Inch Canvas curatorial group specializes in exploring the possibilities of mobile phone art. One of the functions of this group is to annually organize mobile phone art exhibitions. This year’s exhibition is the group’s second organized show.
In this year’s exhibition, 17 artists from six different countries are shown. The Finnish artists are Heidi Hemmilä, Gun Homström, Juha van Ingen, Laura Laukkanen, Tiina Lehikoinen, Alpo Nummelin, Markus Renvall, Jaana Ristola, Laura Rytkönen, Jenni Yppärilä and Denise Ziegler. The exhibitions international artists are Susana Anagua (Portugal), Nina Burks (USA), Filipe Cruz (Portugal), David Dempsey (UK), Albert Merino Gomez (Spain) and Ana Romana (Portugal). In total the exhibition shows 26 works of art.
The video-work for this 2011 exhibition are still the main focus, only now accompanying them are interactive work that exploit mobile phones. Another addition this year is that one of the mobile phones, and the work displayed on it is part of an installation.
Another new aspect of the exhibition is the Artwork of the day amenity, through which 11 of this exhibition’s artwork will be shown. Between the 22nd of March and the 1st of April, one artwork will be published per day. These artworks can be bought and seen from your own phone through this service. Artwork can be ordered for your home, without even entering the museum itself. Part of the cost goes directly to the artists.
